Taxonomy
Tetracynodon was named by Broom and Robinson (1948). It is not extant. Its type is Tetracynodon tenuis.

It was assigned to Scaloposauridae by Sigogneau (1963) and Carroll (1988); to Tetracynodontinae by Ivakhnenko (2011); and to Lycideopidae by Sigurdsen et al. (2012).
