Stauroderma was named by Zittel (1877) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo-u J Kimm-l Sepkoski's reference number: 775,1066]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Hexactinosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Staurodermatidae by Finks et al. (2004).
