Homalioxylon was named by Prakash and Tripathi (1974). Its type is Homalioxylon assamicum.

It was assigned to Flacourtiaceae by Srivastava (1991).

Synonyms
  • Homalioxylon parapaniense was named by Trivedi and Srivastava (1981). It is not extant. Its type locality is Parapani, which is in a Paleogene fluvial horizon in the Deccan Intertrappean Formation of India.

    It was considered a nomen nudum by Srivastava (1991).
