Taxonomy
Tetrastylus intermedius was named by Rovereto (1914) [Type specimen with both dental series, missing the nasals, both zygomatic arches, the incisors, and the right P4. Almost complete mandible, with both dental series, missing only the posterior articular and angular portion in both hemimandibles and the extralveolar portion of the incisors. The specimen includes associated broken postcranial remains.]. Its type specimen is MACN 8323, a skull (almost complete skull and mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Santa Maria Valley Andalhuala Fm, which is in a Montehermosan/Chapadmalalan terrestrial horizon in the Andalhuala Formation of Argentina.
