Coraciidae was named by Vigors (1825). It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Mayr and Mourer-Chauviré (2000).
It was assigned to Coracioidea by Mayr and Mourer-Chauviré (2000), Livezey and Zusi (2007) and Clarke et al. (2009); to Coraciiformes by del Hoyo et al. (2014) and Clements et al. (2017); and to Coracii by Lambrecht (1933), Carroll (1988) and Mayr (2022).
It was assigned to Coracioidea by Mayr and Mourer-Chauviré (2000), Livezey and Zusi (2007) and Clarke et al. (2009); to Coraciiformes by del Hoyo et al. (2014) and Clements et al. (2017); and to Coracii by Lambrecht (1933), Carroll (1988) and Mayr (2022).
