Aracana kershawi was named by Chapman and Cudmore (1924). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is PL3029 - Upper Bed, Table Cape, which is in an Aquitanian shoreface sandstone/siltstone in the Fossil Bluff Sandstone Formation of Australia.
