Balantionella was named by Schrammen (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Balantionella elegans.

It was assigned to Lychniscosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Chonelasmatinae by Finks et al. (2004).
