Taxonomy
Cantharus ashleyi was named by Carson (1925). Its type specimen is LSJU 304; cast, CAS 5051 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Near the San Fernando Tunnel, which is in a Pliocene marine horizon in the Pico Formation of California.
