Dactylocalyx was named by Stutchbury (1841) [Sepkoski's age data: T R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Dactylocalycidae.

It was assigned to Lychniscosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dactylocalycidae by Finks et al. (2004).
