Taxonomy
Orthis decipiens was named by Phleger (1933). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Barrel Spring Canyon, which is in a Caradoc shallow subtidal shale in the Barrel Spring Formation of California.
It was recombined as Hesperorthis decipiens by Cooper (1956); it was recombined as Orthambonites decipiens by Ross and Barnes (1967).
