Taxonomy
Ostrea griesensis was named by Effinger (1938). Its type specimen is UCMP 33511 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP 3607 - South bank of Cowlitz River at old Gries Ranch, which is in a Priabonian marine sandstone in the Lincoln Creek Formation of Washington.
It was recombined as Acutostrea griesensis by Squires (2018).
