Taxonomy
Crassostrea tectonica was named by Squires (2018). Its type specimen is LACMIP 14687, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CSUN loc. 28, Blue Point Campground [Matilija Sandstone], which is in a Lutetian marine sandstone in the Matilija Formation of California.

R. L. Squires 2018 Shell size medium to large. Shape can be odontogry-phaeate. Valves inflated, thick and heavy, especially left valve. Radial ribsrare and weak. Terebratuloid folds rare but strong. Flattened ventralsurfaces of valves can be present. Resilifer groove short to long, withstrong bourrelets, and, on some specimens, annular growth rings; baseof hinge commonly curved with upturned corners. Chomata rare andmainly indistinct. Adductor muscle scar subcircular to subreniform;subcentral (slightly ventral).
