Boffiidae was named by Hahn and Hahn (1983). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Kielan-Jaworowska and Hurum (2001).

It was assigned to Ptilodontoidea by McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Cimolodonta by Kielan-Jaworowska and Hurum (2001).
