Taxonomy
Buginbaatar was named by Kielan-Jaworowska and Sochava (1969). Its type is Buginbaatar transaltaiensis.
It was assigned to Eucosmodontinae by Clemens and Kielan-Jaworowska (1979); to Eucosmodontidae by McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Cimolomyidae by Kielan-Jaworowska and Sochava (1969), Kielan-Jaworowska and Hurum (2001) and Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).
