Taxonomy
Microcosmodon was named by Jepsen (1930). It is not extant. Its type is Microcosmodon conus. It is the type genus of Microcosmodontidae.

It was assigned to Eucosmodontinae by Wood and Ormsbee (1954); to Eucosmodontidae by Jepsen (1930) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Microcosmodontidae by Kielan-Jaworowska and Hurum (2001).
