Pentacosmodon was named by Jepsen (1940). It is not extant. Its type is Pentacosmodon pronus.
It was assigned to Sloanbaataridae by Jepsen (1940) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Microcosmodontidae by Kielan-Jaworowska and Hurum (2001).
