Taxonomy
Pectunculus ovatus was named by Stanton (1895). Its type specimen is USNM 23046, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Pectunculus ovatus by Broderip (1832); it was recombined as Glycymeris ovatus by Anderson (1938) and Rivadeneira and Carmona (2008); it was recombined as Glycymeris ovata by Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
