Taxonomy
Casearia was named by Quenstedt (1858) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-m J Kimm Sepkoski's reference number: 2,868]. It is not extant. Its type is Spongia articulata. It is the type genus of Caseariinae.

It was assigned to Hexactinosa by Sepkoski (2002); to Craticulariidae by Amirhassankhani et al. (2014); and to Caseariinae by Finks et al. (2004) and Senowbari-Daryan and Rigby (2015).
