Taxonomy
Simpsonodon was named by Kermack et al. (1987). It is the type genus of Simpsonodontidae.
It was assigned to Eupantotheria by Kraus (1979) and McKenna and Bell (1997); to Docodontidae by Kermack et al. (1987), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004) and Pfretzschner et al. (2005); to Docodonta by Martin and Averianov (2010); and to Simpsonodontidae by Averianov et al. (2010).
