Iqualadelphis was named by Fox (1987). It is not extant. Its type is Iqualadelphis lactea.

It was assigned to Marsupialia by Fox (1987), Cifelli (1993) and McKenna and Bell (1997); to Pediomyidae by Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004); to Didelphimorphia by Davis (2007); and to Pediomyidae by Williamson et al. (2012).
