Marmosopsis was named by Paula Couto (1962). It is not extant. Its type is Marmosopsis juradoi.
It was assigned to Didelphidae by Carroll (1988) and Ladaveze and Muizon (2010); to Ameridelphia by Oliveira and Goin (2011); and to Pucadelphyoidea by Muizon and Ladevèze (2022).
