Taxonomy
Pichipilus was named by Ameghino (1890). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Pichipilini.

It was assigned to Epanorthidae by Ameghino (1891) and Ameghino (1894); to Pichipilini by Marshall (1980); to Caenolestidae by McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Pichipilidae by Goin et al. (2009).
