Taxonomy

Pararyctes was named by Van Valen (1966). It is not extant. Its type is Pararyctes pattersoni.

It was assigned to Palaeoryctinae by Van Valen (1967); to Cimolesta by Van Valen (1966) and McKenna and Bell (1997); to Cimolestidae by Lopatin (2006); and to Palaeoryctidae by Scott et al. (2002) and Silcox et al. (2010).
