Taxonomy
Tritonium diegoensis was named by Gabb (1864). It is the type species of Buccinofusus.

It was recombined as Nyctilochus diegoensis by Dickerson (1916); it was recombined as Latirus diegoensis by Hanna (1927); it was recombined as Buccinofusus diegoensis by Stewart (1927).
