Didelphodus was named by Cope (1882). It is not extant. Its type is Deltatherium absarokae.
It was assigned to Proviverridae by Scott (1892) and Hay (1902); to Didelphodontinae by Van Valen (1967); to Cimolestidae by Lopatin (2006); and to Cimolestidae by Cope (1882), McKenna and Bell (1997) and Rose et al. (2012).
