Taxonomy

Apatemys was named by Marsh (1872). Its type is Apatemys bellus.

It was assigned to Ischyromyidae by Hay (1902); to Plesiadapidae by Matthew (1917), Hay (1930); to Apatemyinae by Van Valen (1967); and to Apatemyidae by Marsh (1872), Simpson (1940), Russell et al. (1979), Hooker (1986), Gunnell (1989), McKenna and Bell (1997), Silcox et al. (2010), Korth et al. (2022).

Synonyms

Stehlinius was named by Matthew (1921) [preoccupied]. Its type is Stehlinius uintensis.

It was replaced with Stehlinella by Matthew (1929), Gazin (1958), McKenna (1963), Van Valen (1967); it was synonymized subjectively with Apatemys by West (1973).

It was assigned to Plesiadapidae by Hay (1930).
