Dyspterna was named by Hopwood (1927). It is not extant. Its type is Dyspterna woodi.

It was assigned to Pantolestinae by Cray (1973); to Pantolestidae by Van Valen (1967) and Carroll (1988); and to Dyspterninae by Russell and Godinot (1988) and Dashzeveg and Russell (1992).
