Tarka was named by McKenna (1990). It is not extant. Its type is Tarka stylifera.
It was assigned to Ekgmowechashalinae by McKenna (1990); to Plagiomenidae by McKenna (1990) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Tarkadectinae by Szalay and Lucas (1996) and Ni et al. (2009).
