Taxonomy

Mixodectes was named by Cope (1883). Its type is Mixodectes pungens. It is the type genus of Mixodectidae.

It was assigned to Mixodectidae by Cope (1883), Osborn (1902), Hay (1902), Hay (1930), Van Valen (1967), Gunnell (1989), McKenna and Bell (1997).

Species

M. malaris (syn. Oxyacodon tecumsae), M. pungens (syn. Olbodotes copei, M. crassiusculus) (type species)

Synonyms

Indrodon was named by Cope (1884). Its type is Indrodon malaris.

It was synonymized subjectively with Mixodectes by Matthew (1937), Van Valen (1967), Szalay (1969), Rigby (1980), Gunnell (1989).

It was assigned to Anaptomorphidae by Cope (1884); to Limnotheriidae by Hay (1902); and to Mixodectidae by Hay (1930).
Olbodotes was named by Osborn (1902).

It was synonymized subjectively with Mixodectes by Hay (1930), Matthew (1937), Van Valen (1967), Szalay (1969), Rigby (1980), Gunnell (1989).

It was assigned to Mixodectidae by Osborn (1902).
