It was assigned to Talpidae by Hay (1902); to Creotarsinae by Van Valen (1967); and to Erinaceomorpha by Marsh (1872), McKenna et al. (1962), Robinson (1966), Robinson (1968), Robinson (1968), Krishtalka (1976), Krishtalka (1976), Novacek et al. (1985), Carroll (1988) and Gunnell et al. (2008).
