Ankylodon was named by Patterson and McGrew (1937). It is not extant. Its type is Ankylodon annectens.
It was assigned to Plesiosoricidae by Van Valen (1967); to Dormaaliidae by Patterson and McGrew (1937) and Novacek et al. (1985); to Scenopaginae by Gunnell et al. (2008); and to Sespedectidae by Korth et al. (2022).
