Taxonomy
Sespedectes was named by Stock (1935). It is not extant. Its type is Sespedectes singularis.

It was assigned to Creotarsinae by Van Valen (1967); to Dormaaliidae by Stock (1935) and Novacek et al. (1985); and to Sespedectinae by Novacek (1985) and Gunnell et al. (2008).
