Divaricospongia was named by Rigby and Maher (1995) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Divaricospongia dilata.

It was assigned to Lyssacinosida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Stiodermatidae by Finks et al. (2004).
