Notiosorex was named by Baird (1877) [named as a subgenus of Sorex by Coues 1877; raised to genus level]. It is extant.
It was assigned to Neomyini by Van Valen (1967) and George (1986); to Soricidae by Baird (1877), Kurten and Anderson (1980) and Carroll (1988); and to Nectogalini by Gunnell et al. (2008).
