Tregosorex was named by Hibbard and Jammot (1971). It is not extant. Its type is Tregosorex holmani.

It was assigned to Soricidae by Hibbard and Jammot (1971) and Carroll (1988); and to Blarinini by Gunnell et al. (2008).
