Taxonomy
Esthonyx was named by Cope (1874). It is not extant. Its type is Esthonyx bisulcatus. It is the type genus of Esthonychidae.
It was synonymized subjectively with Platychoerops by Lydekker (1885).
It was assigned to Insectivora by Cope (1882); to Esthonychinae by Gazin (1953) and Lucas and Schoch (1998); to Tillodontia by Wang and Jin (2004); and to Esthonychidae by Cope (1874), Hay (1902), Carroll (1988) and Rose et al. (2012).
