Pantolambdodon was named by Granger and Gregory (1934). Its type is Pantolambdodon inermis. It is the type genus of Pantolambdodontidae.
It was assigned to Pantolambdodontidae by Granger and Gregory (1934), Carroll (1988) and de Muizon and Marshall (1992); and to Pantolambdodontinae by Huang and Chen (1997).
