Cedroxylon was named by Kraus (1870). It is not extant. Its type is Peuce withami.

It was assigned to Abietineae by Knowlton (1919); to Plantae by Andrews (1970); and to Pinaceae by Lakhanpal et al. (1976) and Liu et al. (1996).
