Myzopodidae was named by Milne-Edwards and Grandidier (1878). It is extant.

It was assigned to Vespertilionoidea by Carroll (1988); to Chiroptera by Nowak (1991); and to Yangochiroptera by Shi and Rabosky (2015), Amador et al. (2018) and Amador et al. (2018).
