Cornucarpus was named by Arber (1914). It is not extant. Its type is Cornucarpus acutum.

It was assigned to Gymnospermophyta by Andrews (1970); and to Gymnospermae by Lakhanpal et al. (1976) and Chandra and Tewari (1991).
