Taxonomy
Palenochtha was named by Simpson (1935) ["anagram of Palaechthon" (thanks George)]. It is not extant. Its type is Palaechthon minor.

It was assigned to Anaptomorphidae by Simpson (1937); to Paromomyinae by Simpson (1940); to Purgatoriinae by Van Valen and Sloan (1965); to Palaechthonini by Szalay (1969); to Palaechthoninae by Gunnell (1989); and to Palaechthonidae by Simpson (1935) and McKenna and Bell (1997).
