Taxonomy
Adapis was named by Cuvier (1822) [Cray lists the type as Adapis parisiensis, even though it's named after the genus]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Rhinocerina by Gray (1825); to Artiodactyla by Owen (1848); to Pseudolemuridae by Schlosser (1877); to Adapinae by Simpson (1940) and Gingerich (1975); to Adapina by Beard et al. (1994); and to Adapidae by Gingerich (1980) and McKenna and Bell (1997).
