Taxonomy
Proetus malacus was named by Lake (1904). Its type specimen is SAM-K559 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Ormistoniella.
It was recombined as Dechenella malaca by Eldredge and Ormiston (1979); it was recombined as Ormistoniella malaca by Cooper (1982).
