Taxonomy
Apidium was named by Osborn (1908). Its type is Apidium kraeusei. It was considered monophyletic by Beard et al. (2016).
It was assigned to Hominoidea by Simons (1960); to Parapithecidae by Simons and Kay (1983), McKenna and Bell (1997) and Seiffert et al. (2005); and to Qatraniinae by Beard et al. (2016) and Mattingly et al. (2021).
