Taxonomy
Cornuproetus calhounensis was named by Cooper and Cloud (1938). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Salt Spring Hollow, about two miles north of the hollow south of Kritesville, which is in a Givetian carbonate limestone in the Little Cedar Formation of Illinois.
It was recombined as Crassiproetus calhounensis by Stumm (1953) and Lieberman (1994).
