Dolichopithecus was named by Depéret (1889). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Cercopithecidae by Kurten (1968) and McKenna and Bell (1997); to Colobidae by Jablonski (2002); and to Colobinae by Koufos et al. (1991) and Delson et al. (2005).
