Taxonomy
Dechenella (Basidechenella) witherspooni was named by Stumm (1968). Its type specimen is UMMP 56620 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Huron Portland Cement Company Quarry, which is in a Givetian marine limestone in the Alpena Formation of Michigan.
It was recombined as Basidechenella witherspooni by Lieberman (1994).
