Taxonomy
Oxyaenodon was named by Matthew (1899). It is not extant. Its type is Oxyaenodon dysodus.
It was synonymized subjectively with Limnocyon by Wortman (1902).
It was assigned to Hyaenodontinae by Hay (1902); to Oxyaenidae by Peterson (1919); to Limnocyonini by Van Valen (1967); to Limnocyonidae by Matthew (1899), Matthew (1909) and Gunnell (1998); and to Limnocyoninae by Morlo and Gunnell (2005) and Solé (2013).
