Hexatractiella was named by Mehl (1996) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Protospongioidea by Mehl (1996); to Reticulosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Protospongiidae by Rigby et al. (1998) and Finks and Rigby (2004).
