Taxonomy
Marchantites was named by Brongniart (1849). It is not extant. Its type is Marchantites sesannensis.

It was assigned to Marchantiophyta by Andrews (1970); and to Marchantiaceae by Knowlton (1919) and Liu et al. (1996).
